Tim Cook teased Apple’s efforts and upcoming AI features during the company’s Q1 2024 earnings call, which will arrive later this year. It’s rare for an Apple executive to hint about the company’s future plans.

Google, Microsoft and other tech giants have invested heavily in AI, while Apple has little to show for it. However, this may change with the release of iOS 18 later in 2024.

Tim Kom teases Apple’s AI efforts

CEO Tim Cook previously said that AI is “absolutely critical” to Apple products. He also revealed in November 2023 that Apple is working on Generative AI and has invested heavily in it.

During the Q1 2024 earnings call, the Apple CEO reiterated the company’s commitment and investment in AI.

“As we look ahead, we will continue to invest in these and other technologies that will shape the future. This also includes artificial intelligence, where we continue to spend huge amounts of time and effort and we are excited to share details of our ongoing work in that area later this year,” said Tim Cook.

Apple’s AI efforts have been weak so far

Google, Microsoft, and other companies have been regularly updating their products and services with new generative AI-powered features. But Apple has not done anything like this yet.

This may change with the announcement of iOS 18 at WWDC24 this year. The OS may have a lot of AI-powered features, which will help Apple catch up and possibly even surpass the competition.

Reports suggest that Siri may get an AI boost in iOS 18, which could make it smarter. These improvements are reportedly shaping up to be one of the biggest updates to date in the company’s history.
