Matter Labs recently announced the launch of a new ecosystem portal for zkSync managed by DappRadar, which both partners are calling a step towards fully decentralizing the protocol.
A layer-2 blockchain for Ethereum payments, zkSync was created by Matter Labs as a method of scaling the Ethereum blockchain ecosystem. It currently boasts over 200 projects and has provided over 8.8 million testnet transactions, according to the protocol’s website.

As Cointelegraph reported in April, its launch was met with little fanfare, as it attracted $115 million in funding in the first 10 days following its public mainnet launch.
According to a recent press release seen by Cointelegraph, the partnership with DappRadar is part of Matter Labs’ ongoing plan to decentralize zkSync:
“From the beginning, the ultimate vision for Matter Labs has been to incubate, launch, and ultimately decentralize the zkSync protocol and ZK stack. In another step toward this approach, Matter Labs is stepping back from managing zkSync’s rapidly growing ecosystem.
The press release further states that “decentralization comes from gradually divesting Matter Labs of building the technology and managing the ecosystem.”
These changes are in accordance with the zkSync Credo, a document drafted in June that exemplifies the ideals of the zkSync community and the principles of “trustlessness” and “sovereignty.”
The ZK Credo addresses (1) principles and (2) community ethos.
(1) Fundamental principles that are important for decentralized networks:

DappRadar’s platform will reportedly give more visibility to decentralized applications listed through the zkSync ecosystem portal, and according to Matter Labs, this should translate into more views from users and more opportunities for press coverage from major media outlets.

Moving forward, Matter Labs says that giving up control of the zkSync ecosystem is “just the beginning.” “Next time around, the protocol plans to completely decentralize technology, community governance, and all other critical parts of the network,” according to the press release.
