Mark Cuban Confirms MetaMask Was Hacked for $870K: Report
A MetaMask wallet of a famous American investor, TV personality and owner of the Dallas Mavericks was drained through another successful phishing attack.
According to on-chain data, the total value of funds withdrawn is close to $900,000.
- Popular crypto spy WazzCrypto went to Ax on Friday evening to speculate whether Mark Cuban’s wallet has been exploited. Vaz said the address in question was inactive for about six months, but suddenly, all funds were taken out of it.
- Some suspicious behavior of a wallet named “Mark Cuban 2” on EtherScan included dumping all the ETH on MATIC after a $2 million USDC transfer and deposit on Coinbase.

- Speaking to DL News, Cuban confirmed the news, indicating that he “went to MetaMask for the first time in months. They’ll be watching.”
- Later, the owner of the NBA giant said that he was “pretty sure I downloaded a version of MetaMask with some shit in it,” which suggests that he has become the latest victim of a phishing attack in the crypto community.
- He also addressed the Coinbase transfer above, saying that he had made it to protect the rest of his investments.
- Additionally, he only logged on to one of his MetaMask accounts, meaning his other accounts were not compromised.
- Cuba has had a controversial relationship with the crypto industry. He famously said years ago that he would rather eat a banana than Bitcoin because it has higher usage. However, he later changed his stance, started praising BTC, ETH, and NFTs and accumulated a notable portfolio.
