Gresham, Ore. (KPTV/Gray News) – An Oregon business owner says he was robbed of thousands of dollars after a man raided his food cart Thursday morning.

Krista Larsen, owner of the Crazy Coconut food cart, said this is the third break-in since January.

Fearing that the insurance will raise her rates again, she is choosing to pay out of pocket.

According to Larsen, the theft occurred around 1:30 a.m. when he received a notification on his phone alerting him that motion had been detected on one of his cameras.

“I am a single mother and trying to make it day by day,” she said. “I am trying to survive like everyone else. So, this was definitely not where I wanted to go this morning.

Surveillance video shows a man rummaging through her food cart, trying to grab whatever they can get their hands on.

“I would say I’m out $2,500 to $3,000 just for today,” she said.

Larson said her register, which contained about $400, was well hidden but not well enough. The suspect can be seen in the surveillance video checking the refrigerator just before locating it.

The food cart owner said every penny counts right now as small business owners are struggling.

Larsen said she wants the suspect to pay for what she did, which she said included breaking down doors and replacing stolen cell phones.

“When he took my phone, he decided to give over $1,000 to Venmo and CashApp,” he said.

In doing so, Larsen said she was able to learn the name of the suspect, who she said she passed on to police. He said police told him there was a separate warrant for his arrest for the suspect he mentioned.

Now, he has a message for her.

“Get the help you need. Try and be a better person. Come get back the stuff you stole. To try and get things right,” Larsen said. “There is really nothing more to it. Stop being the bad person. It was painful today. It was a huge loss.”

Larsen closed his business the day of the theft but said he resumed normal business hours on Friday.

According to Larson, a friend set up a GoFundMe to help her return.
