The Owensboro Regional Farmers Market is close to closing for the year but the summer season brought success to the organization.

“I think we’ve had a great summer,” said Market Manager Mary Beth Alexander. “We had a record number of customers, a great participation of vendors, amazing entertainment and non-profit organizations coming to set up booths.”

Alexander added that the coming months are still going to be eventful in the market.

“Our Tuesday morning market will continue till the end of September,” he added. “The Saturday morning market will continue through the first weekend of November and it’s our biggest market of the season, it’s our holiday market.”

The market is still accepting applications for the holiday market until September 15th.

Alexander said the board would start planning for the 2024 season as soon as the holiday market is over.

“Vendor applications for next season will open at the end of this fall, beginning of winter,” he added. “We will post that information on our social media.”

Alexander said he is grateful for the customers who have come to the market this year.

Shirley Kranz of Taste of Home Baked Goods has been selling her baked goods at the market for over 15 years.

“I am retired and a lady in the market asked me if I would be interested in selling my stuff,” she said. “I said no, it was too much work, but then summer came and I was bored so I thought I’d give it a try.”

Kranz said she has met new friends and seen old friends by setting up at the market.

Sourdough bread, homemade cinnamon rolls and fried apple pie are top sellers, he said.

Kranz said during the off-season, customers can call 270-313-4319 to place orders.

Kelly Begley and her mother, Alissa, run Sunny Lee Farms and have been a vendor at the farmers’ market for two years.

“My mom grows all the vegetables and I do all the baking,” Begley said. “We sell eggs as well as organic vegetables and organic whole grain baked goods.

Begley said the best part of setting up at the market is meeting all the people.

“We really appreciate everyone,” she said. “I love coming every week and seeing our regular customers as well as making new ones.”

Tonya Womack of Flowertown Blooms said this is the business’s second season growing flowers and its first year at the farmers’ market.

“My husband, Jason, and I start our flowers from seed,” she said. “We also have some wildflowers added to the mix.”

Womack said customers have been very supportive of the business.

Flowers from Flowertown Blooms are also sometimes sold at Niko’s Bakery, Womack said.
