scheduled tribe. George – After a series of events he said felt too serendipitous, a 22-year-old man is unveiling a new home decor store offering a wealth of affordable fun for those looking to decorate their spaces with style. Used to be.

“I just felt like this was what it was supposed to mean,” said Ethan Toon, owner of Grapples Home Decor. “I have always loved St. George, so I opened a store to bring that same love and commitment to this community.”

Toons are nothing new in home decor. Growing up, his parents sold home decor out of their garage before opening Grapples Home Decor in 2005. Based in Nampa, Idaho, his childhood memories included climbing over cardboard boxes and helping out in the family store.

“I really enjoyed what he did over the years and how he treated people,” Toon said. “I really wanted to be a part of the culture.”

He recently returned from a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Raleigh, North Carolina. During a trip to St. George with his father to pick up product for his store, he discovered a vacant St. George storefront. He said things turned out quickly, confirming that the business venture and the move were the right decision.

Opening a business has been a whirlwind. Toon began his business in November and arrived in St. George in January. Together with his mother, he put together the entire store and prepared for the grand opening in less than 14 days.

His parents have worked 19 years to build strong relationships with their suppliers, he said, and now those savings have been passed on to them. The savings are then passed on to local consumers, leading to lower store prices but lower quality.

“I respect my parents a lot,” he said. “And I’m very grateful to their vendors that they were able to share those prices with me.”

Instead of discounting items or having sales like other stores, the same low prices will remain throughout the year.

“I think the biggest thing for the community in general is that I really want them to feel like it’s not about how much I sell,” he said. “It’s all about the individual and their wants and needs. I want them to feel comfortable and loved.”

The store’s displays, which will change every week or two, will be personally decorated by Toon, and he hopes these displays will spark creativity in everyone who walks through the door.

Currently, about half of the 3,000-square-foot store space is being used, and he plans to expand into larger furniture and decor in the future. He will initially open the store as a one-man show, with plans to hire staff as the shop grows.

Of decorating, he said, “It’s something that gives you so much joy because you’re doing it.” “I’m building something that didn’t exist before, in a Lego kind of way. I enjoy putting the pieces together to make it look really beautiful so that someone else can take it home.

But where did the name Grapples come from? When Toon’s mother was young, she was known to call the color purple “grapple,” and the term stuck. Purple is also his favorite color. While Toon has adopted the name of the family store, it is not a branch or franchise of the original store.

Grapples Home Decor is located at 967 W. Red Cliffs Drive in St. George. A grand opening will be held on Saturday, February 3 at 11 a.m. The event will include celebratory opportunities as well as a red carpet display – a tribute to her family’s Greek heritage.

Store hours will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. For more, follow them on Instagram.

“It’s not just a store,” Toon said. “It’s a place where people can come and make friends, get ideas, be inspired and even inspired.”
