Delta and Amex increased credit card fees while increasing perks.  Here's what to know.

Delta Airlines and American Express said Thursday they are raising the annual fee on their joint Delta SkyMiles American Express card, while also offering new benefits to cardholders.

American Express said, card fees will increase by up to $100 effective immediately for new signups and beginning May 1 for existing customers (See here for more information on the cost and benefits of the new card.) Specifically : :

  • The fee for the Delta SkyMiles American Express Reserve Card will increase from $550 to $650 annually.
  • The fee for the cobranded Platinum card will increase from $250 to $350 annually.
  • The Gold Card fee will increase from $99 to $150.

Fees for the business versions of these cards will also increase.

Benefits of the new card include credits for the following travel and dining platforms:

  • Delta Stays, the airline’s travel portal for hotels and vacation rentals
  • Resi, online restaurant reservation platform
  • Ride-sharing services Uber, Lyft, Curb, Revel, Alto and Via Ride

The enhanced benefits also include improvements in airline-issued companion certificates available to cardholders. Previously, companion certificates for the Platinum and Reserve cards were restricted to travel within the contiguous U.S. Now, according to American Express, they are valid for travel to all 50 states as well as Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, including It has been said that this could lead to a loss in savings on airfare for families.
