(KRON) – A broad daylight armed robbery at a 76 gas station in Oakland was captured on surveillance camera video. In the video, a gray four-door sedan can be seen pulling up to a pump in front of a white SUV.

A man wearing a hood gets out of the sedan and opens the door of the SUV. Other persons exit the sedan and assist the first person in removing the victims’ property. Another hooded man can be seen getting out of the car and pointing a gun at the victims’ vehicle.

A spectator in the background raises his hand over the gun’s sights.

The hooded men then get back into the gray car and speed away, taking the victims’ property.

According to the parents of one victim, a suspect broke the rear window of an SUV and fired a pistol at one of the victims.

“He put it on my son’s chest and started hitting his chest and waist with the gun, and my son had watches and bracelets, and he started pulling those things off him,” said Maxi Sher, of Said the mother of one of the victims. “They put their hand, excuse me, they put their hand in his pocket, and they started screaming at him. The second gunman goes to the passenger side and does the same. They go inside the window and put their hands in his pants. They took everything that these children had. “They took his stuff, they took my son’s cellphone.”

The Oakland Police Department said the robbery happened just after 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 29 at 76 Place in the 400 block of Hegenberger Road. Officers arrived at the scene and learned that several victims were sitting in a vehicle when another vehicle pulled up next to them.

Police said several people got out of another vehicle and began stealing the victim’s vehicle. One of the occupants of the other vehicle brandished a gun and demanded all of the victim’s belongings.

According to police, the victims, who were traveling from Texas to California, surrendered their belongings out of fear. The suspects fled the scene with the victim’s property.

The response to the robbery from the gas station and law enforcement took the victims by surprise.

According to Sher, when he asked for help, the gas station clerk laughed and told him that this happened every day, and urged him to leave, otherwise the thieves might come back and shoot him.

The victims were on a trip to wine country and were on their way to return their rental car when the incident occurred.

Victor Obevoven, the father of one of the victims, said, “I don’t think it should be normalized, I mean it was a serious crime.” “This was a gun pointed at my son while going about his business, who was trying to fill up his rental car with gas and return it. It was a good experience and all this ruined it.”

Many businesses on Hegenbarger Road have recently been affected by crime. In the past month, both a Denny’s restaurant and an In-N-Out burger location announced they were closing due to crime.

According to OPD, investigation into the incident that took place at Station 76 is ongoing. Phone calls to 76 gas stations went unanswered.
